Wow, it's been a while between updates! Seems like not a whole lot has been happening; I guess it's just the normal process of Jacob growing up!

His latest thing is eating lots of finger foods. He loves CheeriosTM, graham crackers, Wagon Wheels, vegetable pieces, and pretty much anything mom and dad are eating. He had practically everything on a plate of nachos (except onion) the other night at the Mexican restaurant and loved it.

He doesn't want to be on the ground these days; he'll stand up every chance he gets. He's starting to stand more flat-footed, and we're working on getting him to walk sideways while holding onto an object. He seems to recognize characters on television better than before. The first few notes of Teletubbies will get him to snap his head around pretty quick!

He's growing lots more hair, but it's hard to tell from the photos. It's very light, very blond. He's making lots more noises, including more consonant sounds, so we think it's only a matter of a few weeks before he starts saying a couple of easy words--really looking forward to "mama" and "dada"! We've enjoyed having his cousins and aunt and uncle here in Colorado; Jacob enjoys playing with baby Will and cousin Lauren.

Well, we've posted a bunch of new pictures, check 'em out on
page 61! Until next time!

Time for another update!

Jacob went to the Next Step Developmental Center at Presbyterian/St. Luke's in Denver yesterday for his one year assessment. First, he had a hearing test. He sat on my lap in a soundproof room, and there were stereo speakers on our right and our left with a plastic Mickey Mouse on top of the left one and Donald Duck on the right one. When the nurse played a sound and he looked at one speaker or the other, the Disney character would light up. He did great, heard things that I was sure he would ignore, but he swiveled his little head right around to look at the speaker! The sounds were kind of strange, these sort of "whooshing" noises. Anyway, his hearing is fine!

The it was off to see the PT and there was also a speech specialist there. They put Jacob through a battery of tests and asked us a lot of questions and we all had a pretty good time. Neither of the nurses had any concerns. His fine-motor skills were a bit ahead of his adjusted age (a little over 9 months) and his gross motor skills were a bit behind (they had him at the 8 month stage). As for speech, he was between 8-9 months, although the nurse felt he was on the verge of really doing the things a full-term 9 month old would do.

Today we went to the pediatrician. Jacob is now 16 lbs, and he's 27 inches long. That's a pound and an inch in 6 weeks. The pediatrician said his growth would probably slow down now that he's hit a year old. He got a clean bill of health, three injections (including a chicken pox vaccine that may give him a fever and a few symptoms next week).

So, that's it for now! The little guy is doing fine. We'll be posting some pictures here fairly soon.

We spent the day at Jacob's cousin's yesterday for the Fourth, and celebrated Jacob and Lauren's birthday with a nice chocolate cake! Lauren was born one day after Jacob, but 5 years earlier. We all enjoyed the birthday cake, but perhaps no one more than Jacob! It was his first chance to really make a mess and chow down on the sweet stuff, and he took full advantage! Check it out in Real Media format
here. You'll need the RealOne Player to see it.

Jacob had his follow-up visit with his pediatric urologist today, and the doctor said everything looked fine and dandy. So, we'll go back in another four months to see how it has completely healed. We went on over to the Graduate Nursery at P/SL while we were there and saw Nurse Christa again; she was very happy to see Jacob! Of course he was putting on a show, smiling and being his cute self. They'll have their "homecoming" for old patients next summer, and we'll stop by again when we go back to the doctor in November to see if we can catch any of his other nurses on duty.

Fourth of July coming up! We're heading over to Jacob's cousins' house to celebrate!
