Another fun-filled day in Denver! Jacob met with the nurse at the Next Step Developmental Program, and she was very pleased with how he is doing. He scored 105/106 on the Bayley Scales of Infant Development (and just try to find a decent link on the web explaining that particular test—I can't!). One score is for mental development, one for physical development, and I don't know which is which right now. But it's a Bell curve, and the average scores are from 80 to 115, so he scored solidly on the tests. We've posted some pictures on
page 51 of the session, along with a couple of other pics of the boy.

We went up to visit with the Graduate Nursery again, and this time we found Megan, who was his primary nurse. She was happy to see him, and they had a nice little visit. We're looking forward to the Homecoming they have every year in August where all the preemies come back for a visit. Jacob was actually still in the hospital last year at that time, and there were lots of kids running around who had been either born or taken care of at P/SL as infants.

We made it home just before a snowstorm hit, so good timing there! Enjoy the pictures!

We had a pretty busy day with Jacob today. At least, it seemed busy—it must have been all the driving. Jacob had an appointment with his pediatric urologist today to check out a few things and to schedule his surgery for
hypospadias. His hydrocele has disappeared, and the hernia he had at his belly button has healed, so they won't have to do anything other than correct the hypospadias. Jacob giggled the entire time the doctor was poking and prodding him; I guess it must have tickled!

The doctor said Jacob's hypospadias was moderate to severe, and he also has chordee (see hypospadias link), which will be corrected at the same time. The surgery will be done on a outpatient basis on April 28, and will take about 2 hours. He'll have a catheter for about a week afterward, which will come out when his dressing is removed. The doctor went over the whole process—it's actually very interesting and amazing what they can do. He does about three or four of these surgeries a week, so it's all pretty routine to him, although it freaks us out.

Well, we were already at P/SL, so we decided to take a walk over to the graduate nursery and see if any of his nurses were on duty who might want to see him. As luck would have it, we found Christa, and they had a wonderful visit! He flirted with her and smiled and giggled, and basically acted very Jacob-like for her. We think he remembered her, and who is to say he didn't?

We stopped by a new Middle Eastern restaurant on the way home. Jacob has this habit now of waiting until the precise moment our food arrives to begin screaming for his bottle. But I can eat one-handed, so it's not a big problem for now.

So, it's been a long day, and tomorrow we go back for his Next Step Developmental Program, which should be fun. We'll post an update tomorrow night!

Jacob is doing good. He has been doing really well on the rice cereal and really seems to like it. He has discovered his feet and spends tireless hours looking at them, playing with them, trying to get his toes to his mouth, etc. He seems to notice the cats a lot more and spends a good bit of time looking at them when they are in his line of vision. He also reaches out and tries to touch them when they are close enough.

He has a busy week ahead of him! Tomorrow he will have a visit from Becky, his physical therapy nurse and then later in the day the local baby welcome wagon representative will come to visit us and will tell us about some play groups, etc. in the area. On Wednesday, he has an appointment with his Pediatric Urologist so we can get ready for his hypospadias surgery that is coming up soon. Then on Thursday he has an appointment with the developmental therapy department at Presbyterian St. Luke's where he was born. They like to follow all of their preemies until they are 2 years old.

Howdy, everyone!

Jacob had a very nice visit with his cousins and aunt and uncle last Wednesday. We took lots of pictures and posted a few on
page 50, so go take a look! We had a great time meeting Will and enjoying Lauren. Will is one big boy, we gotta say! He's only two months old, but Jacob is already wearing his hand-me-downs. The long day must have worn Jacob out, because on Thursday he slept nearly all day, even after a good night's sleep! Or maybe he's just undergoing another growth spurt.

On Friday night, we met the gang at Gunther Toody's for dinner, and had a nice visit. It was starting to snow a bit in Westminster, and we had heard that there was a major snowstorm heading for the East Coast, so of course Deb's brother and sis-in-law were worried about the flight back to Maryland the next day. Fortunately, they made it home okay, and managed to get out and get some groceries before the worst of the storm hit and forced them to stay indoors. Everyone seems to think we get a lot of snow here in Colorado, but I can't remember the last time we had two feet of the stuff here. As a matter of fact, it's in the 50s today, sunny and windy.

Jacob's latest trick is to stand up on your lap as you are holding him, then grunt and strain as loudly as he can while his face turns purple. This is not connected to any bodily function; he just seems to get great pleasure out of it and usually laughs after he does it. Becky the PT Nurse loaned us a Boppy, and he really enjoys playing with his toys while in this thing. There's a couple of pictures of him enjoying it in todays update.

Until next time!

Jacob had a busy day. His physical therapy nurse, Becky came to see him this morning and she worked with him for quite a while. She is very pleased with his progress and thinks that he will be sitting up on his own before long. Then his home health nurse came this afternoon to weigh him and give him his monthly Synagis injection (to prevent RSV). The boy is growing like a little weed! He weighed in at a whopping 11 pounds, 15.5 ounces. A half an ounce to go and he'll be 12 pounds.

Nothing else to report, really. He's as cute as ever but we all knew that anyway :-). We're snapping pictures and getting more video, so be on the lookout for new pics and clips soon.

Tomorrow we will be spending the day with my brother, Doug; Sister-in-law, Shari; Niece, Lauren and Nephew, Will from Maryland. I'm sure we'll take lots of pics to post.

Hi to all! Sorry for so long between updates. Jacob is doing just fine.

He's been busy perfecting his roll over techniques and is quite good at that now. His latest is blowing little spit bubbles while making quite a bit of noise and sticking his little tongue out. He tried rice cereal for the first time today and seemed to really enjoy it, so we'll be giving him cereal now in addition to his bottles. It's amazing to see how he is growing right before our eyes! He is wearing some 0-3 Month clothing and some 3-6 Month clothing now and has outgrown most of his preemie stuff.

Needless to say, he is the joy of our lives and we are cherishing every moment with him. We've been snapping some pictures and making some video—check out page 49 for the new pictures. And we have a new mpg here. A couple of the pictures show Becky, Jacob's physical therapist, working with him.

Jacob will have a busy week coming up. On Tuesday morning his physical therapy nurse, Becky will come and work with him and then Tuesday afternoon his home health nurse, Cindy will come to weigh him and give him his monthly Synagis injection. On Wednesday, he will get to spend the day with his 5 year old cousin, Lauren and his 2 month old cousin, Will and will also get to see his Uncle Doug and Aunt Shari. It will be the first time for him to see his cousins since they are from Maryland, so we are looking forward to the visit!
