Jacob was born on June 21, 2002 via emergency C-section at 3:16 PM. This blog follows him through
the NICU and the graduate nursery to his homeand we'll see where it goes from there!
The story of a micro-preemie. . .
Born June 21, 2002
Weight: 750 g (1lb, 10.5 oz)
Length: 13.8 inches
Gestation age: 28 weeks
We went up to visit with the Graduate Nursery again, and this time we found Megan, who was his primary nurse. She was happy to see him, and they had a nice little visit. We're looking forward to the Homecoming they have every year in August where all the preemies come back for a visit. Jacob was actually still in the hospital last year at that time, and there were lots of kids running around who had been either born or taken care of at P/SL as infants.
We made it home just before a snowstorm hit, so good timing there! Enjoy the pictures!

The doctor said Jacob's hypospadias was moderate to severe, and he also has chordee (see hypospadias link), which will be corrected at the same time. The surgery will be done on a outpatient basis on April 28, and will take about 2 hours. He'll have a catheter for about a week afterward, which will come out when his dressing is removed. The doctor went over the whole processit's actually very interesting and amazing what they can do. He does about three or four of these surgeries a week, so it's all pretty routine to him, although it freaks us out.
Well, we were already at P/SL, so we decided to take a walk over to the graduate nursery and see if any of his nurses were on duty who might want to see him. As luck would have it, we found Christa, and they had a wonderful visit! He flirted with her and smiled and giggled, and basically acted very Jacob-like for her. We think he remembered her, and who is to say he didn't?
We stopped by a new Middle Eastern restaurant on the way home. Jacob has this habit now of waiting until the precise moment our food arrives to begin screaming for his bottle. But I can eat one-handed, so it's not a big problem for now.
So, it's been a long day, and tomorrow we go back for his Next Step Developmental Program, which should be fun. We'll post an update tomorrow night!

On Friday night, we met the gang at Gunther Toody's for dinner, and had a nice visit. It was starting to snow a bit in Westminster, and we had heard that there was a major snowstorm heading for the East Coast, so of course Deb's brother and sis-in-law were worried about the flight back to Maryland the next day. Fortunately, they made it home okay, and managed to get out and get some groceries before the worst of the storm hit and forced them to stay indoors. Everyone seems to think we get a lot of snow here in Colorado, but I can't remember the last time we had two feet of the stuff here. As a matter of fact, it's in the 50s today, sunny and windy.
Jacob's latest trick is to stand up on your lap as you are holding him, then grunt and strain as loudly as he can while his face turns purple. This is not connected to any bodily function; he just seems to get great pleasure out of it and usually laughs after he does it. Becky the PT Nurse loaned us a Boppy, and he really enjoys playing with his toys while in this thing. There's a couple of pictures of him enjoying it in todays update.
Until next time!
