Jacob was born on June 21, 2002 via emergency C-section at 3:16 PM. This blog follows him through the NICU and the graduate nursery to his home—and we'll see where it goes from there!

Jacob's Journey--From NICU to Home!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! We had a great Christmas, just a quiet one with our little family here and we spoke with our families by telephone. Santa and his helpers left all sorts of nice gifts for the little one, and he's having a good time exploring all his new toys. I created a
new mpg showing Jacob playing with his new jungle gym—he spends at least an hour every day playing with that thing, which is a nice respite for us. He rolls over anytime he wants to now, so we ordered him a SleepSack today so he can stay warm at night since we can't put any blankets in his bassinet.

Happy Christmas Eve Eve!

Jacob had his six-month checkup today, and he's now 10 lbs! And he's stretched out to 22 1/2 inches. He's growing very well; showing a nice growth curve. Deb had dressed him all up in a Christmas suit that Honorary Grandma Sandy sent with little red boots and a Santa hat that Grandma Nina sent, so the nurse just had to take him and show him around before we stripped him down for his exam. We heard lots of laughter and oohing and aahing out there! Of course he flirted shamelessly with everyone there.

He had another round of vaccinations—one shot in each leg. He was not very happy with that, of course, but he calmed down fairly quickly. The pediatrician said he was doing very well, and he doesn't have to go back until his nine month exam unless we have a problem. It looks like he might be starting to teethe a little bit. He's really starting to enjoy playing with his toys and his new jungle gym Honorary Aunt Cindy sent. It's amazing how you can see the development before your eyes in such a short time. He can flip over onto his stomach at will now, so no more blankets in his bassinet when he sleeps.

There's a new posting of
pictures, and I'm working on a new mpg to put up soon. Everyone have a great Christmas Eve!

Howdy! Hope everyone is getting ready for the holiday season and that you are able to spend them with loved ones! We're looking forward to Jacob's first Christmas. He's already getting stuff in the mail! He received the
Baby Einstein series of videos from Santa, and lots of good-lookin' stuff in boxes and envelopes.

Jacob's physical therapist visited yesterday and seemed to be impressed with Jacob's progress in the last month. Of course, we're impressed daily, but it's nice to hear it from an objective source who actually knows what to look for! I came home from work two days ago and went upstairs to see Jacob and his mom—she was just getting out of the shower, so I asked her if she had put Jacob on his stomach in his bassinet. Of course, she hadn't, so barring alien abduction, he rolled over by himself! He's really interacting with the play gym and assorted toys, and he's been kicking his feet around a lot more lately. The PT nurse says she thinks he's going to be a real handful when he gets mobile! Guess we'll need to start babyproofing the house soon. . .

A real cute thing he's been doing lately—Mom's been listening to Christmas music on the downstairs stereo, and whenever I start to sing along with a deep-voiced guy, he turns his head to the side, sticks out his lower lip and looks as if he's about to burst into tears! I didn't think my singing was that bad, but I guess I don't have a fan in Jacob. He does it over and over; and never actually cries. It's pretty funny.

Well, we'll have some new pictures and movies to post soon. It's getting kind of hard to find the time lately to post and create mpgs since Jacob's really active time is in the afternoon and evenings lately, so we're busy with him. But we'll have some time off in the next week and ought to be able to get some new stuff posted. Check back soon!

Here's Jacob
playing. And here he is being goofy.

Jacob gets his Synagis shot for the month today—poor guy! Guess Deb will have to lock Simba-dog in the basement again, as she really doesn't like that nurse. Jacob's physical therapist comes on Thursday, and he visits the pediatrician on the 23rd for his six month checkup (has it really been that long?), so we'll have more to report in the coming days.

UPDATE, 10:36 AM MST
Well, Jacob got his shot and a weigh-in. . .drum roll, please. . .

9lbs, 9oz! The boy's getting big!

You want movies? You got 'em. I finally got the cable for my graphics card, so I've been busy creating a few .mpgs for you.

Here is Jacob chatting a bit. >>

And here he is smiling at his momma. >>smiling.mpg

You may want to just right click on these and "Save Target As" to your hard drive if you don't want to wait for them to load.

More to come, folks! This is fun!

Sorry it's been so long between updates—time seems to be flying! And, our digital camera broke, which put a major crimp in our style for a week or two. But we bought a new camera,
a much better one, yesterday, so we're back to clicking away and posting pictures. We're still trying to figure it out, so the pics aren't the best yet, but they'll be better than our last camera. I guess we were lucky that thing lasted as long as it did.

Other good news—we got ourselves another early Christmas present, a camcorder, so we'll be putting some movies up for your perusal just as soon as I get the cable I ordered for the interface between my graphics card and the camcorder itself. So that's something to look forward to! None of this would be possible without the kind gift of a new (to us) computer from Jacob's Uncle Doug, so all thanks to him.

Speaking of Uncle Doug and Aunt Shari, Jacob has a new cousin! William Douglas was born December 3, 2002 in the early afternoon. He weighed in at 8lbs, 9oz, and was 21 inches long—I think he was born at the size Jacob is now! Take a look at the big guy!

Well, we posted some new pictures for you. Take a look at Jacob in his Christmas hat at page 45 in the table at the left. And he wishes you all a very happy holiday season, as do his mother and father!
